Equality @ West Wittering

Here at West Wittering we value 'All God's children' and as such we value the diversity and uniqueness of each and every one of us, recognising that none of us are alike in every way.

AS both a school, as well as an employee, we recognise the needs of all individuals and we do not discriminate against anyone in any way based upon their age, sex, gender, faith, disability

Sports Premium Grant

Sport is a key foundation in our school, it is a subject that holds extreme importance with us as we believe that all children need sport to be healthy and active in their lives. Sport teaches us so much which is why we dedicate a significant amount of our energies towards ensuring that all children in our school have the best sporting opportunities possible.

Being a small school has its pros and cons, but when it comes to sport our children really benefit from personalised coaching and lots of opportunities to engage in both Level 1 and Level 2 competitions, giving everyone the chance to represent their school. It is this that gives our children that edge and that hunger for sport.

Each year, we receive a Sports Premium Grant, which is used to develop and improve the sporting provisions within our school. The money is ring-fenced to be spent on sports to develop it in one of several ways:

1) To develop the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity

2) The raise the profile of PESSPA across the school as a tool for whole school improvement

3) Increase the  confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport

4) To provide broader experiences of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils

5) To increase participation in competitive sport

Like Pupil Premium Money, we have to show how we spend this money and the impact that it has. We produce an annual statement that can be seen below.

We participate in a busy schedule of local competitive tournaments, both during and after the school day. These are deigned to not only give competition experience, but also to really focus on skills acquisition and development. On average we enter around 30 events a year and the children get the chance to compete should they wish.

Our school has a broad and sporty mix of both before and after school clubs, many of which are free for our children to join. These are either run by qualified teachers or local sports coaches, and are great for giving the children another opportunity to engage in sport.

If you ask our children what is the best thing about sport at our school, our children will say the swimming pool. Yes, we have our own outdoor heated swimming pool which we open for the final half term every year. No child should leave school not being able to swim, especially when you live so close to a beautiful beach, and what better way to teach them. The pool was completely renovated and relined in summer 2019 and it has not been used yet! Roll on summer term 2021.
