Emotional Wellbeing
At our small, nurturing primary school, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We are delighted to be a Thought-full school, placing high importance on inclusion, emotional development, and creating an environment where every child feels that they truly belong. Aligned with the expectations of the current Ofsted framework, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils, particularly the most vulnerable, receive the care, encouragement, and stability they need to thrive.
A key part of our provision is our dedicated ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), who works closely with children experiencing social or emotional challenges. Through tailored sessions, they help pupils develop resilience, confidence, and the skills to understand and manage their feelings. Alongside this, our much-loved therapy dog, Riva, (and her adult Mrs Madgewick!) play a significant role in supporting wellbeing across the school. Riva helps children regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and offers comfort and reassurance—contributing to the calm and supportive atmosphere we aim to foster each day.
We use Zones of Regulation across the school to help pupils recognise, label, and manage difficult emotions. Each child in every class has an emotional check-in daily. This consistent approach empowers children to develop self-regulation and equips them with lifelong strategies for coping with challenges. By embedding this framework into daily routines, we ensure that every child learns to understand themselves, reflect, and make positive choices.
Nurture is woven deeply into our school culture. We believe in educating the whole child, and this principle guides every aspect of our practice—from our curriculum design to the way we build relationships, support behaviour, and celebrate individuality. Staff are trained to provide attuned, caring interactions and to create an environment where children feel heard and respected.
As a school committed to inclusion, we recognise the importance of removing barriers so every child can access learning and experience success. We know that when children feel emotionally safe and connected, they are ready to engage deeply in learning and flourish academically and personally.
At the heart of our wellbeing and nurture offer is a simple, powerful belief: children thrive when they feel valued, supported, and understood. By prioritising emotional wellbeing, building strong relationships, and offering high-quality nurturing support, we ensure that every child in our care enjoys school, achieves their potential, and aspires to all they can become.
